Law School Scholarship Programs

The Law Foundation directly administers several law school entrance scholarships and upper-year scholarships for students from Newfoundland and Labrador. Additionally, we have funded scholarships that are administered by Memorial University, Dalhousie University, and the University of New Brunswick.

Law School Entrance Scholarships

The Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador Law School Entrance Scholarships support residents of the province entering their first year of law school. Awarded based on academic achievement and community involvement, these scholarships help promising students begin their legal education and encourage them to build their careers serving the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Upper-Year Law School Scholarships

In 2024, the Foundation established funding for three annual Upper-Year Law School Scholarships, each valued at $5,000 and implemented in 2025. These scholarships are awarded to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador who have demonstrated academic excellence in their first or second year of law school and intend to return to the province to practice law.

Reginald H. Brown, Q.C., Memorial Scholarship, Memorial University

The Reginald H. Brown, Q.C., Memorial Scholarship is awarded at Spring Convocation to a Memorial University graduate accepted to law school. Based on academic excellence and leadership, it is presented annually by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards.

The Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador Law School Scholarships at Memorial University

In 2018 the Board of Governors of the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador contributed $75,000 to Memorial University of Newfoundland to create an endowment fund to provide scholarship support  to students graduating from MUN who are pursuing a legal education and have been accepted into any Canadian law school.

The Hon. John C. Crosbie Weldon Tradition Scholarship in Law, Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University

In 2009, the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador contributed $50,000 to the Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship in Law Fund at Dalhousie University. Established the previous year for the Law School’s 125th Anniversary, the fund supports renewable scholarships for NL students demonstrating academic excellence, with values expected to reach $10,000 or more as it grows.

Centennial Law School Scholarships at University of New Brunswick

In 1992, the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador contributed $50,000 to the University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Law Heritage Campaign, establishing two scholarships for NL residents. One supports an upper-year LLB student based on financial need and academic achievement, and the other recognizes first-year academic excellence.
